The ability to overcoming hurdles is ever considered as the hallmark of excellence…
– Kamal Kishin Loungani, Founder and CMD of KIT Group
Importance of self-belief
As a firm believer of self, I place the tenacity to overcoming hurdles as the hallmark of excellence. Life hurls shocks at us when we least expect. Those unexpected shocks try to blow our world out of joints in no time and try to inflict deep wounds on us. Why is why we need to exercise the power of self to surprise those shocks and to ensure the impacts of shock never hurt us.
How to surprise the shocks
Fortunately, there’s something to protect you from the unexpected twists and turns. That is known as the power of self, which doesn’t let us down if we hold on to it firmly. However, life’s surprises may catch us unaware, but by practicing the power of self, we can always remain protected.
You can’t predict! So it’s wise to be prepared
As I have pointed out in the beginning of my blog that intrusions can strike us from anywhere. Not surprisingly, I have a firsthand experience with an unexpected instruction in my professional life. It was in 2006, in one of the leading dailies named DNA a news item was flashed. It reads: ‘Exporter’s fraud sends DRI on a nationwide hunt’. A city exporter named Shyam Tulsiram Bihani has masterminded a large scale tax evasion scam. DRI’s investigation has found that Shyam Tulsiram Bihani has diverted fabric and other goods imported duty-free under DEEC and DFRC schemes.
The crux of the issue and a shocker of the news
The department of taxation has defined trading policies such as Duty Exemption Entitlement Scheme (DEEC) and Duty-Free Replenishment Scheme (DFRC). The goods mentioned in the DEEC and DRFC guidelines were not meant for re-exporting into the local market. But the alleged Shyam Tulsiram Bihani has evaded the rule which has caused more than Rs.100 crore to the government exchequer. The 100 crore evasion was the estimate of DRI and I would have been just another news if I hadn’t seen my name at the bottom of the news.
I was shaken but ‘the power of self’ emerged
DRI has found that Bihani has imported raw material under the DEEC. Instead of utilisation of them for re-export purposes, the goods were diverted into the local market. Out of which, about five consignments of polyester fabrics were sold by Abdul Sattar and Kamal Loungani in Mumbai. Undoubtedly, as a trader, my interests will be always on the quality of the goods I procure. Further bringing out quality products that meet the demands of my clientele has always been my aim. So the whole DRI episode appeared irrelevant to me except I have made a purchase with the alleged dealer. Though that was a shocker of a news I refused to succumb. It was with sheer composure, I channelized my energies to raising the stature of KIT Group globally. Thus, today KIT Group has grown to become a USD 300 million enterprise.
‘Self’ propelled success
To a businessman, his establishment is the most important asset for him. He needs to commit all that it takes to safeguard his business from all sorts of intrusions. So my first priority was to ensure smooth flow of my business- The KIT Group. Which I ensured and as I believe, in business it pays to be prepared. So I am always ready to face the odds and keep doing what is right for the best interests of KIT Group.
